David P. Trofa, MD, FAAOS, FAANA Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Surgeon in New York
About Dr. David P. Trofa
New York orthopedic sports medicine surgeon Dr. David Trofa is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine, treating athletes and active people of all ages: knee ligament and meniscus injuries, shoulder instability and rotator cuff tears, cartilage damage, kneecap instability, and the fractures that follow sports injuries.
Training. He earned his medical degree at Tufts, trained in orthopaedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center, and completed his sports medicine and shoulder/elbow fellowship at OrthoCarolina, where he served as a fellow team physician for the Carolina Panthers.
Team physician career. He was assistant team physician for the New York Yankees from 2021 to 2026, and previously head team physician for Columbia University and Manhattan College athletics. He joined NeuroOrthoNYC in 2026.
Research. He has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, a place among the top 1% of orthopaedic researchers nationally, and recognition as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, with former roles as Director of Clinical Outcomes and Associate Sports Medicine Fellowship Director at Columbia.
Surgery last. Non-operative options, orthobiologics such as PRP and BMAC among them, come first, and every decision is shared. When surgery is the answer, it is minimally invasive and personalized. His goal is simple: getting each person back to the activities they love, safely and quickly.
At NeuroOrthoNYC in New York he works alongside spine surgeons and neurosurgeons, so injuries that sit between specialties are reviewed from every relevant perspective before any plan is settled.
