Neck Treatments in New York

Our New York neck treatment team reviews every option on this page as one practice: neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons on the same case, with brain, ortho and spine care under one plan.

Overview

What do neck treatments include ?

Neck treatment is a range, not a single procedure. The right option depends on which structure is causing your symptoms, not on which specialty you happen to see first.

That is why our New York practice reads every case as one team: a neurosurgeon and an orthopedic spine surgeon reviewing the same imaging together, so the procedure you are offered, if you need one at all, is the smallest that will do the job.

Specific Neck Treatments We Perform

Below are the specific neck treatments we perform in New York. The cards that link open that treatment's own detailed page; the rest are covered by the care on this one.

Surgical Approaches

How is neck surgery performed ?

We start with the least invasive approach that can solve the problem, and escalate only when your anatomy gives us no smaller option.

Relieve the pressure

Through openings of about an inch, we take pressure off a compressed nerve with a microscope or an endoscope. Muscle is spread rather than cut, which is why most of these patients walk the same day.

01

Steady what moves too much

When a segment has become unstable, we hold it with the smallest construct that will work, preferring motion-preserving options over fusing bone wherever your anatomy allows it.

02

Rebuild when nothing less will do

Deformity, disease at several levels, and pain that returned after a previous operation need full reconstructive capability. These cases often reach us on referral from other surgeons.

03
Recovery

What is recovery from neck surgery like ?

Ranges, not promises, and within this category the procedure moves them more than anything else. Your operation, your age, and the shape you start in all count, and we will tell you where you realistically sit.

Day of surgery

Up and walking

After most minimally invasive procedures people stand and walk within hours and go home the same day. Fusion and reconstruction patients usually stay one to two nights.

Week 1

Home and moving

Short, frequent walks are the work of this week. Pain medication steps down as swelling settles, and you have a direct line to our team with any question.

Weeks 2 to 6

Back to routine

Desk work often resumes two to four weeks after a decompression, a little later after fusion. Physical therapy starts once the wound has settled.

Months 3 to 6

Healing completes

Nerves recover on their own schedule, and fused bone keeps maturing for six to twelve months. We follow you until the picture is stable.

When it cannot wait: a fever with a draining wound, sudden loss of bowel or bladder control, or leg weakness that is clearly worsening needs attention straight away. If this is happening, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department now.

Before You Decide

Do you really need neck surgery ?

Sometimes the honest answer is no. If conservative care has not had a fair trial, or if your scan and your symptoms disagree, an operation is not the next step, and we would rather say so early than late.

Common Questions

Honest answers about neck treatments.

Which neck treatment do I actually need?
The one that matches your diagnosis. The exam and imaging name the source; the diagnosis chooses the treatment, not the other way around.
Do I have to start with surgery?
No, and we will tell you either way. Nearly every plan starts with conservative care. Surgery is recommended only when it is the right answer for you.
How long will I be in the hospital?
Often not even one night. Most minimally invasive procedures are same-day. Fusion and reconstruction usually mean one to two nights.
Can I get a second opinion in New York?
Yes. Second opinions are welcome here, including cases that are already scheduled elsewhere. Bring your imaging and the written reports.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
In most cases, no referral is needed. Call 914-303-6548 or use the contact page and our team will help you schedule.
